Wiki related gatherings
If this is really off topic, I apologize... RecentChangesCamp 2009 is being held at the Univeristy Place Hotel on the Portland State University campus Friday morning (February 20) and wrap-up Sunday afternoon (February 22). A copy of the invitation can be found here. Basically, RCC is a wiki barcamp and free to attending. It would be really great to see people from this community attending. It is a great opportunity to meet other wiki people, to talk about your own issues in the wiki community, etc.

Also, Camp Fandom 2.0 is coming up on March 21, March 22 in Chicago at IIT. The event is free to attend. It is a barcamp related to fandom's back end from supporting fansites to dealing with admin issues to promoting your fan community to business issues related to fandom. It would be great to see people from the wiki community attending and presenting/discussing the role of wikis in the entertainment/fan community.

Problems...
Wikia's image store is down. It is sadly bringing the entire site down. Artur Bergman, Wikia's Director of Engineering, is working on the problem now and dragging his colleagues out of bed at 3am (San Mateo time) to help get the sites back up as soon as possible.

Please join us on IRC (#wikia on freenode) for updates.

Gamewikis.org and WoWWiki.com are working as normal.

Error page was at http://gknowledge.wikia.com/wiki/Special:Upload

Database error
From the G.Knowledge wiki
A database query syntax error has occurred. This may indicate a bug in the software. The last attempted database query was:

UPDATE `site_stats` SET ss_images=ss_images+1

from within function "Image::recordUpload". MySQL returned error "1054: Unknown column 'ss_images' in 'field list' (paris.wikia.com)".

-------------

The previous page was also Special:Upload, with the upload form:

Source filename: .../GKnowledge-logo-16x16.ico
Destination filename: GKnowledge-logo-16x16.ico

Description: This image created from Justlogo.png by the gimp: scale image to 16x16 using cubic interpolation, save as .ico specifying 32bpp, 8 bit alpha, no palette. It should be moved to Favicon.ico in order to cause http://gknowledge.wikia.com/favicon.ico to exist, which causes Firefox at least to display the icon on tabs and in the location bar.

------------
The upload log does not show the upload. However, http://gknowledge.wikia.com/wiki/Special:Imagelist does show the upload.

The image is online at gknowledge.wikia.com/images/b/b6/GKnowledge-logo-16x16.ico

Wikia is back
Today's 90 minute downtime was caused by a broken router at the colo which needed to be reconfigured by a router specialist. Everything should be back to normal by now.

All Wikia sites are down. We don't yet know why. Jason is getting no response from the servers. Kyle is on his way to the colo now.

Wikia back up
Apologies for today's downtime. The problem was due to another power failure at our colo where the servers are housed. We are planning to get another one soon to prevent this sort of thing being such a problem.

The site is now back up but will be slow for a while.

Network issues again... all wikis down
All wikis (well, all important ones) are down again, presumably due to network issues at the colo. This is affecting all Wikia sites, including Uncyclopedia and Memory Alpha, and all Wikimedia sites, including Wikipedia and Wikinews.

Wikia back

All Wikia should be more or less back on-line now. There was a power failure at the colo in addition to the network outage. Please report any remaining problems on a postcard to the usual address (or via comments).

Network problems: All Wikia sites down
All Wikia and Wikimedia sites are down due to problems in our colocation facility. According to Brion Vibber, they are having network problems and they're brining in their main guy to fix it.

Read only mode on Wikia
Jason has just posted to the mailing list that they are adding a new database server to Wikia's server cluster now.

All wikis are currently in read-only mode, so you will be unable to edit until the current database has finished being dumped. This is expected to take around an hour.

Wikicities relaunches as Wikia today
Dear Wikians!

Wikicities relaunches as Wikia today.

We will be sending a press release out soon with more details and other news, but this is a pre-announcement to explain the change to you.

All Wikicities are currently being moved from the wikicities.com domain to the wikia.com domain.

We will endeavour to make sure the old URLs continue working so no links will be broken, and users of your wikis should find they are automatically redirected to the correct place.

As you may know, Wikia already hosts some of the world's largest wikis on hundreds of topics ranging from politics to pets. Since the site's launch in November 2004, over 1000 Wikia have been created and edited by over 20,000 registered users in over 35 languages. However, over the past year, the name ''Wikicities'' has often caused confusion, with many people believing it was a site for city guides rather than wikis about any topic.

We hope you the users of your wikis will find the new name Wikia easier to type, and less confusing.

If you have any questions or concerns about this, please contact us or join the #wikia IRC channel on freenode to discuss the change with other Wikia users.

new LiveJournal for Wikia
I can't see a way to move an old LiveJournal to a new name, so this is replacing the old Wikicities LiveJournal. More info on the name change is coming soon.
